Beaford Arts - Image by Dave Green

Welcome to Beaford Arts. Our base at Greenwarren House is in the village of Beaford, deep in the heart of rural north Devon, and has been a centre of creative development for decades.

Each year, thousands of children and young people from across Devon and beyond visit us to take part in our courses, and to broaden and deepen their own creativity.

For over 40 years, we have worked with artists to engage with north Devon’s land and its people. Begun in 1971 by Roger Deakins (now a BAFTA award-winning cinematographer), the Beaford Archive was built from 1972-1989 by artist and photographer James Ravilious into a collection of over 80,000 images – a combination of artistry and social documentary which the Royal Photographic Society calls “… a unique body of work, unparalleled at least in this country for its scale and quality”. We are uniquely fortunate to have this at the heart of our ongoing development.

Through our touring scheme, running from Hartland to West Anstey, Woolacombe to Winkleigh – across 800 square miles of rural north Devon bounded by the Atlantic and the moors, Beaford Arts promotes professional performing arts in non-traditional venues. Moving, enthralling, laugh-out-loud funny – live events are a unique experience every time.

We work with promoters across the region to bring the right events to the right places; their help and support is what makes these opportunities available to our communities. You’ll find details of what’s on this autumn in the events section.
