Beaford Education
The Beaford Arts Residential Centre was established in 1966 by the Dartington Hall Trust as England's first rural arts centre. It is based at Greenwarren House, an early 19th century residence in the peaceful village of Beaford in North Devon.
Every year, over a thousand young people and adults participate in residential courses here at Beaford, taking part in a wide spectrum of arts activities both in the centre and the surrounding area. The facilities can be used flexibly for different group needs, and if required professional artists can run courses for you. Information about the range of art forms and workshops on offer can be found in our 'About the artists' portfolio pages within this site.
We are also available for conferences and adult groups and would be happy to work with you to tailor bookings to suit individual needs. There is ample parking close by to allow for visits by large groups, e.g. conferences.
Next to the centre you can find the interesting church of St George & All Saints, with its distinctive carvings and reputedly the oldest church bells in Devon (1432). Aditionally, the village also offers a village hall, tennis courts and village green play area, which visitors to the centre are welcome to use.
The surrounding countryside is typical of Devon's rolling landscape with views across to Dartmoor and Exmoor. Numerous walks around Beaford can be enjoyed by all visitors, with the River Torridge and Beaford Bridge only 20 minutes walk from the centre.
